CARM – A Mandatory New System

The siren song of CARM has been reverberating throughout the importing community for many, many months and it is now reaching its crescendo.

CARM will launch on May 13th 2024 – just a few short weeks away.

CBSA, customs brokers, and other trade chain partners have relentlessly been trying to spread the message and significance of CARM to all those whom will be affected come May 13th with limited success. Even after months, and realistically, years of communication, less than 50% of importers are currently registered in the CARM client portal.

This is a problem, and if you are an importer who has yet to register, time is running out.

While the launch date is May 13th, there will be a cutover period beginning on April 26th during which time new CARM registrations will not be possible.

So, time is indeed of the essence.

CBSA has published Customs Notice 24-14, which outlines the parameters of the cutover period. While some of the information is technical and directed to customs brokers and our partners, there is some worthwhile information for importers, too.

The staff at King Bros. has been working diligently to onboard our clients, and we have been providing one-on-one guidance to assist with this process.

CARM is Not Optional.

CARM is not optional, it will be the new system of record for all importers, and registration in the client portal is mandatory. It is imperative that importers are registered prior to April 26th 2024 to avoid delays at the border.

Please contact our office or visit the CARM Information Page on our website for assistance.

Government and industry alike have been diligent and unwavering in efforts to communicate the reality of CARM to the importing community, but ultimately the onus is on you, the importer, to take a few moments of time to register on the CARM Client Portal.

We can’t stress enough how critically important it is to be registered prior to April 26th.

Don’t delay – act today.
